I create art that makes people happy. My career as a commercial portrait artist expanded after an emotionally overwhelming encounter with an enormous abstract Rothko painting that left me leaning against velvet exhibit ropes and weeping unashamed among hundreds of strangers. I set out to understand how a sweeping field of orange moved me to tears. Rothko painted an emotion with color. That’s what I wanted to do. I wanted to understand how to communicate, not with words, but with color. I am fascinated how painting one color against another will make it glow. I’m always mixing paints to create a new, bold & brilliant shade. Those hues invoke a feeling and their vibrancy make people feel alive. I share that through my art. As an abstract expressionist painter, my aim is no longer to recreate people’s features by realistic reproduction, but to create art that exudes joy & happiness. |
